Six years ago, English post-punk outfit, The Futureheads, were desperate to have the US know them while they were supporting Scottish band, Franz Ferdinand on tour. Flash forward to 2010 and fans in Los Angeles deliriously rejoiced at the news of their return after what seemed like four long agonizing years. No longer clinging to the fame of a neighboring band, they headlined The Troubadour on Wednesday night with their angular guitar-based songs which touched the level of music credibility any other new and upcoming band could only aspire to now.

Friday is a day to start the party. The weekend, itself, has become synonymous with the word, “party” and we fully intended to do that with Beak>‘s first show in Los Angeles. Those who were uber fans of Geoff Barrow or just fans of Portishead, in general, slowly filed into The Troubadour last weekend carrying hopes of leaving with new inspirations or at least some favorable musical influences that could make the British three-piece become their new favorite band.
Well, as much as we wanted to party, our adrenaline quickly died as the night went on. Canadian band, Stars, graced the stage of The Troubadour last night in Los Angeles and they have another show tonight. However, both shows are sold out. We know one thing though. The beginning of May started off with a glorious bang as we attended Avi Buffalo‘s record release show for their self-titled album via Sup Pop. As avid followers of this young band, we were excited to see how they would bode in the infamous Troubadour.
It turns out they inducted themselves into the long standing legacy which the venue holds quite well. The Wailing Wall from New York and VOICEsVOICEs of Los Angles provided support at the celebration this Saturday. Check our review and photos out below!

The anniversary of a musician’s death can be a harrowing experience for bandmates, friends and fans alike. However, it is celebration, not sorrow, that will characterize the vibe during an April 19 tribute show at Los Angeles’ The Troubadour that marks the one-year death anniversary of Danny Federici, the 35-year keyboardist and accordion player for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. Federici died at age 58 of complications from melanoma on April 17, 2008.

The clock is slowly ticking until Phantom Planet‘s final show on December 12th at the Troubadour, sure to be a bittersweet evening for fans who have followed the band closely throughout the past thirteen years. While there hasn’t been an change in schedule to the band’s indefinite hiatus, thoseĀ who haven’t yet lifted their heads from tear-stained pillows might want to read on, with eagerness and perhaps slight thrill.
