Jay Z Signs Ting Tings To Roc Nation Jay Z Signs Ting Tings To Roc Nation

British pop duo, The Ting Tings, were just on the verge of mainstream stateside for 2008. Ht songs included “That’s Not My Name” and “Shut Up and Let Me Go” which was used in the an iPod commercial. Their debut album, We Started Nothing, was an indie favorite that even landed them spots in SXSW and on late night shows such as Jimmy Kimmel.

Last time we heard anything from Katie White and and Jules de Martino, they warned fans by saying it might take a little longer to write their second album because of their massive tour schedule. Now – finally – we’ve got Ting Tings news but it’s a rather random tidbit: Ting Tings has been signed to Jay-Z‘s record label, Roc Nation.

New Music Video: The Ropes’ “Kitty Get Down”

New Music Video: The Ropes Kitty Get Down

New York-based duo, The Ropes, have released a new video for their single, “Kitty Get Down.” For the first few seconds of the video, it seems to be a literal interpretation of getting a cat down from a tree. However, as it progresses the images give me the same vibe Peter, Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks” and Death Cab For Cutie’s “Grapevine Fires” provided. The lyrics are simple yet they are also a metaphor for courage.

The Ropes definitely have style that is reminiscent of The Ting Tings, but they channel a new wave sound instead of pop. Check out the video below and let us know what you think!

Poll: Which Coachella Date Is A Must See For You?

So, the Coachella line up (potential line-up – there could be additions) has officially been posted! From the looks of it, the roster of artists is very spread out in terms of genre, mainstream, and quantity. Friday’s giving us Girl Talk, Morrissey, and the Ting Tings. Saturday’s presenting Dr. Dog, Fleet Foxes, and MSTRKRFT. Then Sunday anticipates Jenny Lewis, No Age, and Vivian Girls…. However, the question is: What is the quality of this line up?

We’ve been hearing mixed reactions to the line-up and some of them have been extremely disapproving or extremely delighted. So we want to know one thing. If you had to choose ONLY ONE DAY out all all three dates, which day would you go to Coachella for?

See the entire 2009 Coachella line-up.

Poll: Which Ting Tings Video Do You Like Better?

The Ting Tings released their US music video for “That’s Not My Name” yesterday. Although they already had a video for the track, it’s not uncommon for bands and artists to shoot new ones for a later release in other countries.

The original UK version was simply Katie and Jules playing around in front of a white background. In the US version, the backdrop is a bit darker with a contrast of neon colors a la Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown.” Which one is better? (Videos are after the jump!)

What’s your opinion of the video? I feel like it’s a little bit late in the game for this video. The problem with the Ting Tings is that there is so much repetition in their songs that although you find the fun at first, they tire you out quite quickly.

But if you’re not tired and are dying to see them live, you can check out their upcoming shows below…

Ting Tings Will Wait To Write Second Album

Another band that blew up in the past year has been The Ting Tings. This British duo has played a tons of shows including SXSW, played on numerous late night shows in the US, and have also had sold out shows in the US. Their song, “Shut Up And Let Me Go” was even featured in an iPod commercial.

With all the success, fans have already gotten antsy for another album but it sounds like the writing process for a sequel to their debut album, We Started Nothing, will begin a little later than we’d like.
