After seeing These United States at a random cafe called Paradise, I made my way up a street up and around the corner, and it turned out to be the Forcefield PR party. This was definitely one of the parties I could have stayed at all day with their ridiculously stacked roster. Inside was the first chance for a Toro Y Moi experience and I took that as soon as I could. Toro Y Moi, aka Chaz Bundick, was definitely a one man show and the combination of his looping vocals, synthesizer, and guitar put us all in a haze in the middle of the day. There was even some expressive hand dancing up toward the front of the stage that completely fit the mood of the space but definitely wasn’t something you would usually see at an indie rock show.

SXSW‘s music festival officially started yesterday and the streets of Austin definitely showed it. Not only was it the official kick off to the week’s event, but it was also St. Patrick’s Day. Industry folk, bands and their instruments, along with people dressed in green – who were ready to have a good time – piled out onto 5th, 6th, and 7th Street in Downtown Austin to catch some great live acts.

Chillwave artist, Toro Y Moi aka Chazwick Bundick, is back with another video for his track, “Talamak” and it sports the same care-free vibe his last video for “Blessa” did. Last time the warmth was brought by all the party goers in the soft spotlight as he performed at a house but this time the actual warmth is coming from sunlight as it fades in and out of the scenes where Bundick and his friends literally play with a little fire near a pond.
Toro Y Moi shouldn’t be a new name to BeatCrave readers since he was recently one of our BeatCrave Favs and on our Bands To Look Out For In 2010 list. Check the new video out below as well all of his upcoming tour dates!

Toro Y Moi aka Chaz Bundick may be emerging from the same pool as Memory Tapes and Washed Out. However, his choice of hazy textures and lo-fi synth pop seem to tell us bits of his life story. Whether it’s the not-so-clear memories of college parties (which is demonstrated in his video, “Blessa”) or just chilling on a sunny afternoon with nothing to do, Bundick’s ways of sliding slices of funk into his massaging beats bring us back to those days when we all used to groove so naturally. Even though we have more responsibilities as we grow older, the music of Toro Y Moi does a fantastic job of capturing all those memories we can’t necessarily reminisce through clarity of the mind but through those warm and relaxed feelings that were tucked inside the soul.

We previously mentioned Toro Y Moi in our Bands To Look Out For in 2010 list, and we were right. The chillwave artist has just released a video for the track, “Blessa,” and what takes place seems to happen as naturally as what the song presents to us audio wise. What’s more natural than having Toro Y Moi perform at a house party?
Short but sweet, this video directed by Jon Casey makes misty vocals, special lighting, beer, and dancing seem like a night worthwhile. Check it out below!
