Well, fans of Nine Inch Nails and/or lead Nail Trent Reznor’s score for David Fincher’s The Social Network have a big reason to rejoice this holiday season–details have just been released concerning the score to Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, composed by Reznor and collaborator Atticus Ross. The most interesting detail? The soundtrack–not the movie, but the soundtrack–is over three hours long.

Back when he was sharing his, uh, “interesting” sexual opinions on tunes like “Closer,” we doubt that Trent Reznor ever would have imagined that he’d be on stage accepting any kind of Academy Award, but last night he took home a trophy for his work on The Social Network along with collaborator Atticus Ross. However, that’s not the only project these two have worked on together–they’re also in a group with Reznor’s wife, Mariqueen Maandig, called How to Destroy Angels, and according to Billboard they’ve recently finished recording a new release under that name.

Now that the nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards are out and ready for heated discourse, let’s acknowledge the Best Original Score category, which features Trent Reznor and Johnny Marr.
Reznor and Atticus Ross are nominate for their work on The Social Network, while Hans Zimmer and collaborator Johnny Marr’s Inception soundtrack also received a well-deserved nod.
Reznor already won a Golden Globe and now will battle John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon), Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech), A.R. Rahman (127 Hours) and Zimmer/Marr for the Oscar statue.

It was a big night for The Social Network at the 2011 Golden Globes, which included Trent Reznor winning the award for Best Original Score.
The Nine Inch Nails leader singer out-maneuvered the likes of AR Rahman (127 Hours) and Hans Zimmer (Inception) to pick up the Globe alongside co-composer Atticus Ross.
Reznor went to his Twitter page to describe Sunday night’s big win: “Holy shit.”

After putting the live incarnation of Nine Inch Nails to bed (at least for now), Trent Reznor certainly hasn’t faded into the gloomy, eyeliner-caked and black leather-clad night—after releasing an EP from How to Destroy Angels (his new musical project with wife Mariqueen Maandig) and crafting the stellar, moody soundtrack to The Social Network with Atticus Ross, Reznor recently revealed that he’ll be teaming up with Network director David Fincher on yet another soundtrack collaboration—the score for Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, once again with Atticus Ross.

When Trent Reznor ended Nine Inch Nails as a touring entity in 2009, one might have considered that the black-clad doom-rocker was planning to ride off into the sunset (or gloomy, starless night in which no one loves him and only his black eyeliner can convey his loneliness, as the case may be); however, few probably suspected that within a year he would have helped craft an excellent, nuanced score to one of 2010’s very best films—and then get a Golden Globe nomination for it.

If there are any bitter Nine Inch Nails fans out there because they haven’t been too happy with the band’s hiatus nor are they satisfied with the former frontman’s project with his wife, How To Destroy Angels – and definitely not welcoming Reznor’s collaborative score with Atticus Ross for The Social Network, then this may be the one day they can crack a smile of approval if not one of joy.
Although we’re actually digging the material Reznor‘s been working on lately, an announcement in regards to another reissue of NIN’s album, Pretty Hate Machine (via Consequence of Sound via TwentyFourBit), is pretty much going on top of everyone’s list. Details after the jump!

In case you feared that your life would be alarmingly Reznor-free following the retirement of Nine Inch Nails as a live entity, please allow Trent Reznor to allay your worries: not only will David Fincher’s The Social Network feature a score by the head Nail, but his angry, intentionally messy 2007 concept record Year Zero (concerning a near-future dystopia engendered by the Bush/ Cheney administration, natch) will be coming to a small screen near you as a long-rumored television show, thanks to HBO and the BBC.

Facebook may have died for a short amount of time yesterday just in time for everyone to be talking about the upcoming film, The Social Network. (Could it all have been part of Justin Timberlake’s evil plot?) However, now that’s it’s back up and running, people are still talking about the movie in some sort of meta-analytic way on the social media network itself.
It could be because it’s only a week a way from the film’s release. It could be because Trent Reznor gave away five free songs from the score. It could also be because we have yet another track from the film for you to listen to. Take a listen to track #6 by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for The Social Network after the jump!
