Late last night we shared the news with you in regards to the upcoming soundtrack for Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight series. Although a couple of movie stars may be holding production back by demanding a pay raise, Alexandra Patsavas and her people at Chop Shop Records and Atlantic Records are ready to share the music with you. Exciting, right? Even if you’re not a Twilight fan, you have to admit the last soundtrack was pretty rad with their choice to go for a “softer” indie touch.
The con to this soundtrack track list? We’re going to have to wait all day to have the final list of songs and artists much like we had to wait all day for the Bonnaroo lineup… The track list will reveal itself here but we’ve got the first batch of artists who are on the Eclipse soundtrack below! We’ll be updating it here on the site until we have them all! Check it out so far after the jump!

Vampire Weekend haters (a trend just as annoyingly, well, trendy as loving Vampire Weekend’s hyper Caucasoid sorta-kinda Afro-pop) have may have even more cause to lace their Kool-Aid with strychnine this year—according to Tiny Mix Tapes, the young band is planning more releases for 2010, after having already released their popular sophomore effort, Contra, just three months ago.

Vampire Weekend hit the Outdoor Stage at Coachella on Friday night with the swagger and confidence of a band that had made it—and why not? They’ve sold millions of records (somehow, that many people are still buying records), and despite a heated backlash, have seemingly countless fans. Which is why their set at Coachella was so confounding—they’ve got the hits, the energy, the hooks, and the crazed and ecstatic fans, so why did their set on Friday fail to connect? It felt, as I watched the band play on twin jumboscreens that bookended their stage, that the band wasn’t really playing at all, and that I was simply viewing a live DVD on a massive screen.

NME has broken the headlining lineup for Suffolk, England’s five-year-old Latitude Festival today, which seems lightly subpar when compared to the fest’s previous heavies (such as Arcade Fire, Nick Cave, Thom Yorke, Wilco and more). Florence + The Machine, Belle and Sebastian and Vampire Weekend will be the tent-pole acts for this year’s Latitude, with backing by Empire of the Sun, The Maccabees and Rodrigo y Gabriela. Keep in mind that this is simply an initial announcement, meaning that there will be more to come. That said, as far as initial announcements go… well, Belle and Sebastian are pretty good, right?

Vampire Weekend premiered their music video Giving Up the Gun via Spinner today, and let’s just say, tennis has made a comeback. The superstar cast includes rappers RZA and Lil Jon, Joe Jonas, and Jake Gyllenhaal — enough said.
Giving Up the Gun centers around Jenny (a friend of Vampire Weekend) and a number of opponents whom she goes up against in several matches; there’s a samurai, a gigantic woman, Joe, and Jake (to name a few) and she beats all of them. One of the best, if not the best, match is the one against Gyllenhaal, who plays a comedic tennis player who constantly sips from a flask. It’s obvious that most of the performances are improvised, but that doesn’t make the video any less amazing.

Vampire Weekend may have gotten the world to accept them as the band who plays accessible Afro-pop music, but it’s still hard for them to shake that Ivy League label most critics have slapped onto their personalities. We’re also somewhat guilty of doing that here, but can you blame us when they flaunt their love for Polo T-shirts so willingly?

Pop singer/Uffie sound-a-like, Ke$ha, seemed to blow up out of nowhere with her hit single, “Tik Tok, an anthem for sorority girls everywhere. The song alone made digital sales history and her debut album, Animal, was received well by her fans.
However, it looks like she’s been knocked out off her high throne as Vampire Weekend‘s sophomore album, Contra, has replaced her at the #1 spot in the US Pop album chart. According to Billboard via (Reuters), Vampire Weekend has sold 24,000 copies during its first week on sale and was the only debut to appear in the top 10.
