We don’t know about anyone else, but we can’t feel our toes. Our fingertips, either. Ears and noses aren’t far behind; in short, it is cooo-oooold. Winter technically isn’t for another two weeks, but seriously – ouch. Scarves and thick socks haven’t yet done the trick, so we’re moving on to the next best thing – going to a show. From standing-room-only bodies to rhythms inciting movement, it’s the next best option at keeping warm and showing love for more-than-interesting talent. Win-win, no? Check out our picks below.

What happens when a music festival is canceled just a few days prior to its commencement? A ton of angry tweets, people demanding refunds, bands with no venues to play, and an army of Hanson fans screaming shenanigans.
As you may have heard Sunset Junction, the little community event that became a giant music festival, had the plug pulled just 48 hours before the function and what ensued was not the chaos one would expect. The community got together, venues booked bands, block parties formed, and an almost SXSW style event took over the Silverlake/Echo Park areas for a weekend of free (and some paid) shows. It’s that time again. It’s time for us to pick our favorite music video of the week! A lot of great material was released over the past few days but we had to narrow it down to one. We based our decision on creativity, music, and most importantly why you won’t see it on MTV…but should!
And the pick of this week is…

Young the Giant headlined The Roxy on Saturday and although their crowd seemed to feature particularly young faces, these faces were the ones of super fans. Just walking around the venue before the show’s start, the chatter we overheard was full of excitement with people even commenting on how they’ve been following them around all tour.
We last saw Young the Giant open for The Futureheads but tonight was the night they would finally be taking Los Angeles by storm just as they had with the nation when they released “My Body,” a song about youthful urges embedded in a driving pop rock arrangement with an unbelievably catchy hook.

Another weekend, another line-up. We’d like to thank the following bands for making our job so easy.
- Rumspringa | Friday, September 24 | 8:30 pm | 21+ | $8 | Bootleg Theater, Los Angeles, CA – Map | The LA-based band tickles us about ten shades of pink, they makes us feel something giddy. Their energy exists on a spectrum from mellow to highly charged an therefore is among the most contagious out there. Pretty much, to have it contained within the Bootleg’s warehouse walls serves as a challenge as to whether or not they can blow the roof off the joint, maybe, maybe piecing it together with a more smooth, blues-y composition. Being that this is their release party for their latest record, Sway, we can’t guarantee any promises other than a hell of a time. With Superhumanoids and Gamble House – Buy Tickets

Another weekend. Such a burden, this. To go out and have fun and express ourselves through our taste in music… it’s just so belaboring an endeavor. It’s a hell of a time; someone’s gotta do it. Let’s embark on fun times together, once concert pick at a time.
- of Montreal | Friday, September 17 | 7:00 pm | $27.50 | Terminal 5 | New York, NY – Map | Pop has been undergoing a refreshing redefinition, causing artists to be on their toes and hopefully self-sufficient. To some this means abandoning self; to others it means retaining self. of Montreal, with more years on the scene and no intent to overhaul a sound and style that has proved to be consistent and intriguing (as can be heard on their latest album, False Priest), one pit-stop on the road at a time. Can’t catch them tonight? They’ll be playing Saturday the 18th as well. With Janelle Monae – Buy Tickets

Cooler weather, cooler music… coincidence? We think not. Okay, maybe. But we’re always down for cooler music. Check out our picks below.
- Colour Revolt | Friday, September 10 | 7:30 pm | 21+ | $12 | Mercury Lounge, New York, NY – Map | With a slight audible resemblance and style to Cake and perhaps The Bravery, we’re happy to report that that is where the similarities end for this Mississipi-based indie rock outfit. They’re fun, introspective, and are perhaps a touch heightened sexually in regards to overall mood and ambiance… or maybe that’s just us. Either way, we approve. Considering they’re promoting their latest album, The Cradle, we assume the rest of the public does as well. With Turbo Fruits - Buy Tickets
