If you’ve checked out our MTV VMAs video/performance roundup, you would have seen the first performance by The Black Eyed Peas‘ Will.I.Am and rapper-singer, Nicki Minaj. Performing Minaj’s new single, “Check It Out,” both artists came out dressed in very futuristic superhero costumes. Minaj sported her curves and a big pink wig and Will.I.Am came out dressed in all black – including his face which was covered in makeup to make him look darker.
Many viewers took Will.I.Am’s makeup choice to be a poor one by a majority agreeing that it “set black people back 100 years.” However, Will.I.Am made sure to speak out and correct people: The makeup was not meant to be taken as a racial statement.

Taylor Swift is one of the richest 20-year-olds in the world for her ability to lay the words in her diary on top of some nice pop country melodies. She was only 14 when she became a part of the Sony Records family as a songwriter and she really did only write about what she knew. It’s something all writers do whether they’re part of the music industry or not. Her pop career was then boosted when she wrote a song about being dumped by Joe Jonas (“Forever & Always”) and she busted out those chops once again when she hosted SNL.
So when it’s the one year anniversary of her incident with Kanye West, was she going to address her delicate-princess feelings through song? Obviously. However, this time, it’s hard to conclude whether we can all still find it endearing or merely pathetic now.

Another year has gone by and and another batch of unnecessary awards shows have also occurred to capitalize on the teen market who ave no clue the “M” inĀ MTV used to stand for Music Television. Honing in on reality shows such as the filthy Jersey Shore and getting the best B-list celebrity talk show host to talk smack about A-list celebrities (via Chelsea Handler) basically sums up our vapid generation’s interest last night.
But hey, we know some of you were tuned in for the music. That is, whatever is left to be considered music. We’ve got every single VMA performance for you after the jump – but first – let’s take a moment of silence to bow our heads in shame in regards to Justin Bieber winning Best New Artist…
