It’s that time again. It’s time for us to pick our favorite music video of the week! A lot of good material was released over the past few days but we had to narrow it down to one. We based our decision on creativity, music, and most importantly why you won’t see it on MTV…but should!
And the pick of this week is…

After leaving Bambi Kino’s set on a high, we darted back over to the Echoplex for White Lies‘ set as pat of Culture Collide Festival. As another English alternative rock band playing this weekend’s festivities, we were a bit hesitant about how well would do with their dark but uplifting songs as the closer for Saturday night.
Drawing many comparisons to Joy Division and Interpol for their enticing swarthiness, White Lies also incorporate post-punk and new wave elements into their sound very well. However, based on the reaction from the immobile Klaxons fans last night, we were curious to see if the uplifting aspects would overshadow the darkness.

White Lies, formerly known as Fear of Flying, is a fantastic trio whose genesis is owed to the little island that could (produce awesome music): the great U.K. With a sound that echoes Interpol, Depeche Mode and, yes, even The Cure yet is so distinctly its own, White Lies, create a music that is comfortably familiar without ever failing to be cool. With their debut album “To Lose My Life” hitting the #1 spot on the British charts, White Lies are off to a great start. With festival dates already booked, including a stop at Coachella, there is no doubt that White Lies will have a legion of fans singing their tune. Before you see them at your local festival, check out today’s BeatCrave Fav: White Lies.

While the wind picked up to make it an exceptionally cool day four (March 21) of SXSW in Austin, the excitement seemed to be dying down. It could’ve been because of a hangover epidemic that seemed to have a grip on everyone’s brain, or it could’ve been because most of the big-name acts (Metallica, Jane’s Addiction, Ben Harper, etc…) had already come and gone. Or maybe we can thank Kanye West, who played adjacent to downtown at the Fader Fort party, for distracting everyone long enough to bring down the lines.

Say what you want about Josh Schwartz’s television series (The O.C., Gossip Girl, Chuck), the man has given some much-needed exposure to a lot of Indie bands. Back when The O.C. was still on the air, he gave acts like Death Cab For Cutie, The Killers, Modest Mouse, Rachel Yamagata, and more a chance to reach a broader audience on a national scale by having them appear on the show, and even perform their songs.
It looks like he’s returning to that formula with his new web series, Rockville, CA, which will run exclusively on TheWB.com. We mentioned it a few months ago (and maybe some of you even turned up to be an extra in it!), but now it’s finally nearing completion. Set in the fictional nightclub Rockville, the show will feature live performances from bands every week. Though only 15 to 30 seconds of the performances will air during the 4 minute episodes, fans will be able to see the full two-song sets as well as interviews with the artists online.
