With the upcoming national holiday on March 29 known as Britney Spears New Album Day, we’re already hip deep in a barrage of media surrounding the pop star.
In the studio wrapping up Femme Fatale, Britney Spears tweet-hyped her collaboration with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am. “In the studio with @iamwill…you guys are gonna love this one,” Spears tweeted.
It’s a musical mash-up more shocking than Aerosmith and RUN-DMC. According to the BBC, in an effort to market their business more effectively, Intel has awarded will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas the position of “Director of Creativity.” Although details are sketchy as of now, it seems that his role will involve working with the company to reach a wider audience.

As we reported earlier this week, the indestructible juggernaut that is U2 is already planning to release a new album in early 2011, despite the overwhelming not gooditude of last year’s No Line on the Horizon (aka No Editor in the Studio). What we didn’t know at the time is that the upcoming release is only the first of—sweet, sweet Jesus—three new albums that Bono and Co. have planned for our poor, defenseless and Joshua Tree-missing ears.
If you’ve checked out our MTV VMAs video/performance roundup, you would have seen the first performance by The Black Eyed Peas‘ Will.I.Am and rapper-singer, Nicki Minaj. Performing Minaj’s new single, “Check It Out,” both artists came out dressed in very futuristic superhero costumes. Minaj sported her curves and a big pink wig and Will.I.Am came out dressed in all black – including his face which was covered in makeup to make him look darker.
Many viewers took Will.I.Am’s makeup choice to be a poor one by a majority agreeing that it “set black people back 100 years.” However, Will.I.Am made sure to speak out and correct people: The makeup was not meant to be taken as a racial statement.
Another year has gone by and and another batch of unnecessary awards shows have also occurred to capitalize on the teen market who ave no clue the “M” in MTV used to stand for Music Television. Honing in on reality shows such as the filthy Jersey Shore and getting the best B-list celebrity talk show host to talk smack about A-list celebrities (via Chelsea Handler) basically sums up our vapid generation’s interest last night.
But hey, we know some of you were tuned in for the music. That is, whatever is left to be considered music. We’ve got every single VMA performance for you after the jump – but first – let’s take a moment of silence to bow our heads in shame in regards to Justin Bieber winning Best New Artist…
As if we didn’t have enough of Black Eyed Peas and their long, futursitic-obsessed expensive music videos, Will.I.Am recently told Vibe that he may be working with James Cameron. James Cameron! Please say it ain’t so! As much as we ripped on Avatar, you can’t deny that Titanic and Avatar were GREAT films we will remember forever. However, if he throws Black Eyed Peas into that mix, that is a sure sign that the world is going awry and awry is a complete understatement in this situation.
In June 2009, Perez Hilton and and Black Eyed Peas manager had a throw down after an argument back stage at the Much Music Video Awards. It started out with Hilton making homohphobic slurs toward Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am and ended up with the band’s manager, Liborio “Polo” Molina, throwing the punches back as a reaction.
TMZ had caught it all on video, but Perez Hilton, himself, had twittered about the fight and made a video recalling the night’s event from his perspective. Hilton has millions of loyal fans (we’re not quite sure why), and a majority of them were concerned about his well-being. However, all charges against Molina had been dropped Wednesday morning. It looks like Hilton can’t even use his fan’s pity to win everything.
Darn you and your Boom Boom Pow’s and repetitive, yet infectious beats! The Black Eyed Peas know how to make moves when it comes to the music charts. According to the Associated Press, the Peas have really got something to sing about. They’ve just broke another record on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with not one, but two of their songs. Earlier this morning, I was reading the New York Times and decided it would be interesting to count exactly how many times the word ‘Obama’ was printed on the front page… I got dizzy before the fold. True, our new commander-in-chief is receiving massive amounts of exposure from media that’s saturated with Obama-this and Obama-that, but countless musicians across the globe are working even harder to get the word out about the new Prez.
