The Flaming Lips appearing on Yo Gabba Gabba! just feels right, a perfect match of the band’s whimsical, psychedelic pop-rock and the show’s hip, costumed characters.

Album of the Week: Yo Gabba Gabba! vs. Papa Roach

YoGabbaRoach1 SP083110 Album of the Week: Yo Gabba Gabba! vs. Papa Roach

What do California hardcore rockers Papa Roach and the children’s television program Yo Gabba Gabba! have in common?

‘Absolutely nothing’, I thought, as I gave their new albums a spin. On August 31st, Papa Roach released Time For Annihilation… On the Record, and On the Road, which builds on the hard rock sound they developed on their 2009 album Metamorphosis. The track “Burn” is a perfect example of the band’s progression from typical punk rock into a more experimental fusion sound. The verse starts with an atypical drum beat leading to a grungy chorus that ends with a harmony that Kurt Cobain would have been proud of.

Weezer To Rock Out In Bug Costumes For Yo Gabba Gabba Weezer To Rock Out In Bug Costumes For Yo Gabba Gabba!

Oddly enough, this may be the most expected (as in normal) thing we’ve seen Weezer front man, Rivers Cuomo do in the past few months.

Covering Lady Gaga, naming their album Raditude with cover art featuring a flying dog, creating a Wuggie, then collaborating with Katy Perry has made us all wonder about the novelty of Weezer.  Yet somehow, seeing the band dress up in bug costumes and seriously rock out during a song called, “All My Friends Are Insects” is strangely comforting.

Yo Gabba Gabba To Release Album Yo Gabba Gabba! To Release Album

Wasn’t it just yesterday that we mentioned Yo Gabba Gabba!? True story.

Why were we talking about Nickelodeon’s kids show? Probably because we love Chromeo and they are just ONE of the awesome artists who have contributed to the show. Forget Dora the Explorer or silly purple teletubbies. Yo Gabba Gabba! managed to become the coolest show for both kids and adults. Usually teaching kids positive lessons like “lathering up” before dinner time, guest stars always include indie-friendly artists such as of Montreal, The Shins, and The Roots.

Chromeo Encourages Kids To “Lather Up!”

Sunday, March 1, 2009 10:00PM - By

As if I needed another reason to love electrofunk duo, Chromeo! In their appearance on Yo Gabba Gabba! (possibly the coolest kid’s show out there now), Dave 1 swears he’s always been a “VCB – a very clean boy,” and makes sure P-Thugg washes his hands before touching the keys. It may have been the most hilarious and cutest use of a voicebox in history! DJ Lance Rock is right: “Listening and dancing to music is awesome!”

Check out the priceless video via Videogum, and “Lather up! … Lather up!”

OFFBEAT: Biz Markie’s New Career

Sunday, December 7, 2008 1:27PM - By

Yo Gabba Gabba has apparently been on the air for over a year but I haven’t seen it until now, maybe because I don’t spend a lot of time watching Nick Jr.  On the show, Biz Markie gives a daily beat for children to learn how to become rap pioneers.  Here he has a Halloween costume that looks like it was thrown together in five minutes out of stuff he already owned to make some sort of bat-pumpkin hybrid, not the product of a TV studio.
